About Kentucky hunting
Kentucky has been dubbed The Land of 10,000 Elk, due to one of the most successful wildlife reintroduction projects in U.S. history. Not only are the elk plentiful, they’re on average 15% larger than elk found in western states. The absence of predators, relatively mild Kentucky winters, and abundant food sources have contributed to the remarkable population growth and size of these animals.
Kentucky also has more deer per capita than anywhere else in the U.S. Permits can be easily obtained, and the state produces several trophy class bucks each year. Some of the highest deer densities in the state are within a geographic area often referred to as The Golden Triangle--a section encompassing the Louisville, Lexington, and Northern Kentucky areas.
In three Kentucky counties (Harlan, Letcher and Pike) a hunter, with all the necessary permits, could conceivably take a bear, elk, and deer all on the same day.
