About trip
A typical guided trip day:

An average day on the river starts off at the Anderson & Platt Outfitters shop anywhere from 5AM and later (this can vary depending upon requests and when the fishing is best). Our guides arrive early to prepare for the day by picking up the hot flies and any last minute supplies they might need. We highly encourage you to engage the guide in conversation about your expectations, your experience level(be honest) and your equipment and any needs you might have to make this an incredible day of fishing. The shop does have gear to loan free of charge if you forgot something.

The guide will then drive you to whichever river is chosen prior to the trip. Being located just north of Dillon, MT places us in the best, centrally located place in Montana when it comes to fishing. We have the Beaverhead and Poindexter Slough out our back door. We are 20 minutes to the Big Hole River Thirty minutes to the Jefferson River. Forty to the Ruby and one hour and fifteen minutes to the Madison. So the options are endless. Once there to the river of choice, the guide will rig the rods drop the boat in the water and the fishing begins. Once you are on the water be ready for the fish. Especially up high on the Beaverhead, you can catch fish just across the river from the boat ramp. If you are a beginner, then the fishing lessons will begin!

Lunch

Which is provided on a full day float – is usually taken around noon to one o’clock. After a short reboot, the action resumes. Most full day guided trips last approximately eight hours from the put-in on the river. If you start fishing at 9:00 AM, the day is typically over by 4-5:00 PM. This can be adjusted, of course, to fit our clients’ needs regarding travel, weather, and afternoon meetings. Following your day of fishing, feel free to enjoy some time at the shop where guides from all over the valley gather to unwind, tell some tales and have a few ales. Its the perfect way to end a wonderful day on the water

Times are adjusted depending on the weather, water temperatures, and when the fishing is best. It is not uncommon to start fishing at dark- thirty during the heat of the summer. Getting off the water is adjusted to try and accomplish a full day of fishing. If you want to have any libations on the river, we do not provide any, but you are welcome to bring your own. All of the guides carry a cooler on the boat so feel free to bring what you like to drink and we’ll keep it cold.

We also love documenting the fish caught, so bring your cameras and phones and the guides will take as many pictures of you holding Montana’s finest trout as you like.
