7-Day Elk Rut Wilderness Rifle Hunt At Salmon Forks
Capacity of
1 person
Duration of 7 Day
Elk hunting in the Bob Marshall has been heralded for over 50-years as the quintessential pack-in wilderness hunt experience. Every hunter who truly wants the full hunting experience must do a wilderness hunt at least once in his or her life. Swan Mountain Outfitters is pleased to offer the ultimate wilderness pack in elk hunt, in our newest added location, at Salmon Forks Outfitters.
The area which Salmon Forks has assigned under permit with the USFS, is truly unique and allows the outfit to vary trip offerings to cater to the needs and abilities of our hunters. With over thirteen drainages within a five mile radius of the Salmon forks camp, Salmon Forks Outfitters can run day hunts from the camp, or “spike out” for few days to get closer to spotted game.
One of the standout features of hunting elk in the Bob Marshall Wilderness is that it is one of the few places in the country that you can hunt elk during the rut with a rifle! Our hunts run from September 14 to October 16, a full 6 weeks prior to the rest of the state opening for elk hunts for the general season. This early season hunt format is convenient for folks who want to hunt the West, but get back to their home state for their opening season.
Make no mistake about it, these are rugged hunts that are physically demanding and entail a lot of hiking and riding. These are fair chase wilderness hunts, so there are no fences and no way to predict the impact that weather, predation and other hunter pressure will have on game movement. There are no guarantees of harvest, and in fact, there are times when hunters due to unforeseen circumstances don’t see game. If you are looking for an easy, lodge based vehicle hunt, this is not it.
Standard hunt formats consist of 7-day hunts: first day ride into camp; five full days of hunting; last day ride back out.
