Swan Lake, Montana Fishing Guide

Swan Mountain Outfitters offers the best of fly fishing in northwest Montana. Fly fishing in Montana is world renowned; just one visit here and our guides will prove that the reputation is well deserved. Anglers from all over the world come here to fish for the Montana rainbow trout, Montana bull trout, Montana brook trout and Montana cutthroat trout that fill our lakes, rivers and streams. Over the years, we have found that different anglers want very different types of Montana fishing vacations. The unique feature of fishing with Swan Mountain Outfitters is that our guides will customize your trip, so you get the type of experience you want.

The richness of our surroundings allows us to offer Montana fly fishing trips that meet the needs and desires of all types of anglers, trips include: fish and float the Swan River day-trips or multi-day, walk and wade, fishing clinics, horseback pack and fishing trips, semi-guided or fully guided customized fishing trips, multi-day hiking and fishing with llama packers (llama trekking), and non-hatchery grown wild trout fishing in our new location at Salmon Forks Outfitters, within the interior of the Bob Marshall Wilderness.

Orvis once named the fisheries within in the Bob Marshall one of the top five in the world. It's a rare opportunity to fish native trout in their original habitat. Salmon Forks Outfitters, newest addition to Swan Mountain Outfitters, operates out of the most coveted spot within the Bob Marshall: guiding anglers to the “source” of the wild hatch for trout. Whilst many of the other Bob Marshall float trips get you close to these areas, you float away from some of the best fishing. With a Salmon Forks Outfitters trip, you camp at the headwaters of the fishery, and each day break out to a variety of areas to walk and wade. Your precious time isn’t spent setting up and breaking down camp, but rather enjoying your wilderness experience.

Home to westslope cutthroat and bull trout, the waters in and around the Salmon Forks present some of the finest fly fishing offered in the state of Montana. Because this is located 21 miles into the interior of the Bob, the fishing experience is truly a wilderness experience. Only a handful of lucky anglers access this area annually.
Additionally, many of our guests combine horseback pack trips with fishing excursions. Swan Mountain Outfitters is happy to help guests plan unique trips based on specific needs, to help plan your Montana fishing trip of a lifetime.

Salmon Forks 7-Day Roving Pack Fishing Trip Fully-Guided
1 person @ $4200
Anglers may seek diversity in a wilderness fly fishing trip, and Salmon Forks Outfitters has designed a special trip that meets the bill! Salmon Forks Outfitters has access to some of the best fishing spots in the Bob Marshall Wilderness offering opportunities to fish alpine lakes, wild and scenic rivers and tributary streams. It all begins with a ride into the Salmon Forks Outfitters camp at the confluences of the Flathead, White and Little Salmon Rivers. From there, we can spike out in any number of directions targeting specific lakes, streams and rivers. Roving trip logistics: First day ride into Salmon Forks camp; next five days horseback rove, camp and fish at different locations that can include: Little Salmon, Salmon Lake, White River, Southfork Flathead River and Salmon Forks, five full days; ride out last day. Many guests ask if we provide float trips on the South Fork of the Flathead river, we do not. There are only a few outfitters with permits to float, and we are not one of them. However, we want to point out, that although a float on the river can be very enjoyable, we believe the fishing options with Salmon Forks Outfitters offer a superior angling experience and here is why: - As required by permit, float outfitters must keep moving down river, and the end result is that some of the better locations are passed by since the boats must keep on moving. - Although located in a wilderness, the section of the south fork of the Flathead that is floated is subject to considerable use, multiple daily encounters with other floaters is likely. - Due to the major fire in 2015, virtually the entire area surrounding the stretch of floated water has been severely burned and is scarred. The setting is not currently as majestic as other locations within the Bob Marshall in particular the Little Salmon and Salmon Forks areas. -During high water it is very difficult to control downriver descent, this results in difficulty in targeting choice fishing spots. Contrast this with walk and wade, where the angler can specifically target waters and adjust to flow rates If you wish to reserve a rafting fish and float with Swan Mountain Outfitters, daily and multi-day trips are available on the Swan River from our Swan Lake location. Salmon Forks Outfitters is pleased to provide a wide array of high quality fly fishing, roving pack trips and elk hunts into the Bob Marshall. We operate from early June until mid October. Listed rates do not include pre and post-trip transportation, lodging or meals, fishing or hunting licenses, nor tips for your crew, if you feel they deserve it. For all repeat customers, 10% off of our prices for re-booking for another trip with Salmon Forks Outfitters!

My wife and I enjoyed our cowboy cookout ride. Our guide was very friendly. Food was excellent, the ladies who helped cooked were very friendly as well. Great scenery, saw lots of deer. Great way to end an evening.

Had to come back in and fix my review since I noticed it wasn't on 5 stars. Rode 7 hours at Swan Lake in June 2013 with just my husband and Luke, who was our wrangler. We liked Luke a lot and him and my husband talked about hunting practically the whole time. Meanwhile, I was off on my own blissful Rocky Mountain trail riding la-la-land. I adored the horse I rode (Jack). Aside from my massive uncomfortable saddle and a different wrangler having no idea how to properly tack up my horse, it was a dream. Coming back this month to take on an all day Many Glacier trek without the fam...and another with, of course
