We are a full service elk hunting guide outfit guiding hunts in the Bob Marshall Wilderness and Swan Valley areas of Montana off of horseback. Our hunting areas support a number of elk herds, with elk bulls taken frequently enough on our elk hunts. Our hunting areas also support ample populations of whitetail and mule deer and color phase black bear, increasing the chances of success across species. This terrain is more challenging to hunt elk in, no doubt, no flat land here. With the expertise and skill provided by our guides, we have had good luck in past years, and expect that to continue in the future. Our elk herds are in better shape today than they have been in thirty years! For hunters interested in whitetail deer hunting, we have some super bucks and Boone and Crockett will confirm that the Flathead National Forest is one of the largest producers of trophy whitetail deer on public land in the country. We have a variety of choices to hunt whitetails either in combination with other species or targeting whitetails specifically. This is our highest success category for our hunts, and whitetail deer are too often over looked in Montana. With the presence of mountain mule deer in this part of Montana, it is safe to say that high country mule deer hunts are our passion. Our guides provide great success rates on our guided mule deer hunts for those deer hunters willing to put in the extra effort to go up high for a mountain mule deer. Make no mistake, mountain mule deer are tough, and hunting them is even tougher, but for those that have the drive and physical ability to get up high, these hunts are remarkably rewarding. On this hunt we can get either a mule deer or a whitetail. Group Discount Rates: 10% for groups of 4+
Spring Bear Hunt
1 person @ $3100
We provide guided Montana black bear hunting in the spring and in the fall. Our guided spring bear hunts are often done using horses, which makes us a very unique option for guided bear hunts in Montana. The Swan Valley is home to some of the best black bear hunting in Montana. We are renowned for having four different color phases of bear. Montana bear hunting is pure fair chase, no baiting or use of dogs, in fact we can’t even use scents. We are one of the very few outfitters that uses horses hunting for bear in the spring! The Swan Valley is one of the few areas in Montana that remains open for black bear hunting until May 31st. In the spring these animals are very active, and hunters can focus on hunting bears exclusively without the distraction of hunting elk and deer. Many Montana bears color phase and there have been beautiful chocolate and cinnamon colored bears harvested in the Swan Valley. We don’t get up at the crack of dawn as the black bears rarely do. We’ll hunt rockslides, search old logging roads and trails for scat and sit clear cuts. We use horses for this hunt when ever possible, and if the weather has them up high we will hike several miles a day. Hunters can elect to take some time to fish, taking advantage of our “Blast & Cast” offering either at the ranch or in any of the 60 plus streams, rivers and lakes within an hour’s drive. If you are looking for the ultimate fair chase black bear hunt in the beauty of the Swan Valley in spring, this hunt is for you
7-Day Elk Rut Wilderness Rifle Hunt at Salmon Forks
1 person @ $5500
Elk hunting in the Bob Marshall has been heralded for over 50-years as the quintessential pack-in wilderness hunt experience. Every hunter who truly wants the full hunting experience must do a wilderness hunt at least once in his or her life. Swan Mountain Outfitters is pleased to offer the ultimate wilderness pack in elk hunt, in our newest added location, at Salmon Forks Outfitters. The area which Salmon Forks has assigned under permit with the USFS, is truly unique and allows the outfit to vary trip offerings to cater to the needs and abilities of our hunters. With over thirteen drainages within a five mile radius of the Salmon forks camp, Salmon Forks Outfitters can run day hunts from the camp, or “spike out” for few days to get closer to spotted game. One of the standout features of hunting elk in the Bob Marshall Wilderness is that it is one of the few places in the country that you can hunt elk during the rut with a rifle! Our hunts run from September 14 to October 16, a full 6 weeks prior to the rest of the state opening for elk hunts for the general season. This early season hunt format is convenient for folks who want to hunt the West, but get back to their home state for their opening season. Make no mistake about it, these are rugged hunts that are physically demanding and entail a lot of hiking and riding. These are fair chase wilderness hunts, so there are no fences and no way to predict the impact that weather, predation and other hunter pressure will have on game movement. There are no guarantees of harvest, and in fact, there are times when hunters due to unforeseen circumstances don’t see game. If you are looking for an easy, lodge based vehicle hunt, this is not it. Standard hunt formats consist of 7-day hunts: first day ride into camp; five full days of hunting; last day ride back out. Book your Salmon Forks Outfitters Bob Marshall Wilderness elk hunt today!

We went on an all day horseback ride from Many Glaciers Hotel to Poia Lake on 8-23-2016. Our guide Tara was amazing. We had so much fun. Scenery was beautiful and her knowledge and passion for horses was a real learning experience for us. Great ride! Thanks Tara! Here's a link to the picture we took of you!

We went on the cowboy cookout ride and it was a fantastic ride and dinner. Our wrangler (guide) was Anna and she was amazing. She was extremely knowledgeable about the area and wildlife, patient and very entertaining. She made sure everyone had a great time and ensured that they felt safe while doing so. The ride went through some very beautiful areas and ended with a great steak dinner that was cooked perfectly. I would highly recommend the trail rides at Swan Mountain Outfitters and am likely to take another the next time I visit Glacier National Park.

Brian was our guide on Swan Mountain. This was an excellent first timers experience snowmobiling. Brian was very attentive, took us to beautiful scenic spots. My favorite was the ride back and it being partially dark on the way back, such an adrenaline rush. GREAT TRIP AND WONDERFUL SURPRISE FOR SHAWN.

Welcomed 2017 in with Shawn and Bryan, our guides for the Desert Mountain Snowmobile Guided Ride. These two are great - my husband Jeff and I are not experienced riders and needless to say needed help and assistance along the way. Both were very understanding, always making sure we were having fun as well as safe! Beautiful scenery and great trails! A special thank-you to Bryan for staying with me as I fell behind the group. He never made me feel like it was a bother at all. We will be back guys and hope we see you! Hope you have a great 2017!
