Lake Erie Fishing Charter for Walleye Perch Steelhead, Cleveland Avon Lorain Vermilion Huron GenevaNight walleye fishing lake erie Fishcrazy Derby The Central Basin of Lake Erie is one of the greatest fisheries throughout the year. Cleveland, Ohio is in the heart of it all. During Spring and Fall, the walleyes are close to shore. One of the best methods to catch them these times of year is one of our specialties: Night Fishing for Walleyes! During the Fall season it is common to have several walleyes over 10 pounds in one trip, some topping 11 and 12 pounds. Steelheads are often caught while fishing for walleyes these times of year, they offer a though fight and some great acrobatics, many times breaking line before coming in the boat. Big schools of jumbo perch are also near shore, catching limits of jumbo perch is routine during Spring and Fall! As the weather warms up and summer approaches, most of the fish leave the shores and head for the deep waters following the bait fish. Together with the walleyes migrating from the western basin, the summer months offer a great opportunity to find mile-long schools of walleyes, offering coolers full of fish. Of course the steelheads also school up in the central basin. Catching a steelhead in open waters will be a fight you will not soon forget! The big perch also move into deeper water during the summer, and can be caught as far as 20 miles off shore. We follow the fish as far as 30 miles out to the Canadian border. At the end of the day, it is a true off shore fishing experience! A good number of "resident walleye" remain near shore throughout the entire year. For the most part, they can be found off the drop-offs in the "skinny"/shallow water on the entire southern Lake Erie shore line. This is a unique opportunity to catch walleye shallow in the middle of Summer.
