From mountain caribou hunting in Canada to duck hunting in Peru, there are some amazing hunts available around the world.  If your dream hunting trip involves traveling abroad, you'll want to be sure you do your homework in advance.

Before you book your hunting trip and your flight, you'll need to have all the necessary documents required for international travel. You sure don't want to incur cancellation fees should you have to cancel your flight because you're missing certain legal documents.

We recommend you check with your guide to see what they recommend, as regulations vary from country to country, but here is a basic list of documentation you'll need to travel and hunt internationally.

  • Valid passport
  • Visa (depending on the country)
  • Hunting/fishing license (check with your guide)
  • Gun permit and clearance on your gun
  • Another form of ID (driver’s license, resident card)
  • Additional passport size (2 X 2 inch) photos
  • Health insurance

Other documents you may be asked for:

  • Registration with the country
  • Hunting education test
  • Signed statutory declaration that you’ve never been convicted of violating hunting laws
  • Background check
  • Receipt of purchase for your rifle

Should you want to purchase travel insurance, check out www.travelinsurance.com. They have an easy-to-use online system which will allow you to compare quotes from different companies.

What do you do if you lose your passport?

We hope it doesn't happen, but if you're unfortunate enough to lose your passport, it's important to report the loss immediately.

Contact the Department of State immediately upon discovering that your passport is missing. You will need to complete a form DS-64 in order to report it lost or stolen. This form can be completed online.

Consider renting a charter flight to avoid the hassles of checking in airports and it just might be more affordable than you think!
