"Fishing has always been a passion of mine, so let me take you out and show you the beautiful Pacific Northwest and catch a fish of a lifetime."

Most first time visitors who come to fish with Boe can't help but remark, “Wow, you live in paradise!” Boe just smiles and says, "It’s home to me."

It is hard to imagine a more beautiful geographic location to wet a line than in the Pacific Northwest. The rivers are big, the fish are big, and the weather is generally mild.

Our Dream Sporting Trips writer spoke with Boe Myers on a rare day when he wasn't on the river.

How did you get into this business? What made you decide to become a fishing guide?

Boe Myers

My Dad taught me how to fish when I was just a boy, and I've been fishing ever since. We primarily fished from the riverbanks. I met my wife five years ago, and her Dad is a guide, so we'd go fishing often with him. He showed me the rivers, taught me the ropes of guide fishing, and one day he said he had an offer on a boat and asked if I would be interested in buying it? I thought, "Sure!"

So I got my guide's license and kept learning the ropes. I've been guiding for four years now, and it just gets better and better.

Where do you take your clients to fish?

Boe Myers

I fish the Rogue River year round, but target different species, salmon and steelhead. From January to April, we target Winter Steelhead on the Umpqua River. From May to July, we target Spring Chinook Salmon on the Rogue River. Summer Steelhead start coming in July and run through November-December on the Rogue. The Fall run of salmon go from August to October on Rogue. We also fish the Elk and Sixes Rivers on the coast for salmon in November and December.

What is your personal favorite fish to catch?

Boe Myers

Winter Steelhead, by far, on the Umpqua River, but it's always fun to land a 25 lb Spring Salmon, or "Springer" as we call them.

Is there a particularly exciting fishing adventure you'd share with our readers?

Boe Myers

Every trip is a fun trip, especially when young kids are involved. Each time a kid catches a fish for the first time, and I see the smile on their face, it’s a great feeling.

And it was amazing helping this guy land a 24 lb steelhead. The fish fought like a salmon for 30 minutes. We finally got it in, took a photo, and then let it go. Great fishing day.

What is the most commonly asked question your clients ask?

Boe Myers

"How long is this river trip?" Our full day river trips are between 8-8.5 hours. Our half day trips are about 5 hours long. It's hard to say how many miles long the trip will be, because it depends on how far we travel. A river mile is much different than a highway mile, and we'll stop and fish where the fish are. We fish out of a heated 17x54 Willies drift boat with all gear and bait provided.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?

Boe Myers

I go out to have fun, enjoy the river, rain or shine. Even if someone has never fished before, I'm happy to teach them to cast a pole and help them catch their first fish.
