"My buddies and I could literally count to seven and have a bull Redfish on our hook. Nonstop for hours on end, even through the slacktide!"
At Dream Sporting Trips, not only are our guides the best at what they do, they also are generous in sharing their skills with others. In fact, that may be the #1 reason guides go into business. Seeing a smile on someone's face when they catch their first fish is a favorite job perk of most guides, and Captain Matt is no exception!

How did you get into this business? What made you decide to become a fishing guide?
Captain Matt Salgado, Salty Gillz Charters
Growing up near the water, it was an easy decision to take up fishing when I was a child. I fished every day, pond hopping for largemouth bass. My passion for fishing and for the water led me to buy my first boat, a Mitzi Skiff.
Over the years, I invited family and friends to join me. To me, it's more enjoyable to watch them show a huge grin when catching a nice fish than it is for me doing it time and time again. Watching children reel in the big one is the best by far.

Where do you take your clients to fish?
Captain Matt Salgado, Salty Gillz Charters
I fish all over Tampa Bay, from the open bay to the very back country. Always go where the fish are abundant during particular times of the seasons.

What is your personal favorite fish to catch? What fish do you primarily fish for?
Captain Matt Salgado, Salty Gillz Charters
I normally catch whatever is in season or is plentiful during that time of year. I like going for Redfish because you have to work for them sometimes. It's more like a challenge, you vs. fish. Nothing like sight casting a tailing Redfish on the flats!

Is there a particularly exciting fishing adventure you'd care to share with our readers?
Captain Matt Salgado, Salty Gillz Charters
It would have to be when I stumbled onto maybe 100-200 Redfish within a 30-yard stretch. My buddies and I could literally count to seven and have a bull Redfish on our hook. Nonstop for hours on end, even through the slacktide. Then some dolphins came through tossing the Reds and charging at them. Definitely a site to see.

Respect the fish, follow FWC regulations to help keep the fishery thriving, and take a kid fishing.... it's the best feeling in the world.
"If you're looking to catch fish, book a trip! Matt is one with the fish--he knows where to find them. We will meet again and thanks for an amazing day on the water--action was non stop." - Garvin
