We fly into lakes that may have never seen another aircraft. When you hunt here, you have a legitimate opportunity at a Boone & Crockett class animal of all five species. What makes our hunts so remarkable? Three things....
The Amount of Game Available. Both in terms of the variety of species and the number of animals in the herds, the volume of wildlife here is incredible. This makes for exciting, fast-paced hunts. Our hunters see a lot of game, and there are rarely any long periods of slow hunting. This makes it possible to do two or even three species combo hunts in just a 10-day hunt. There are not many places on earth where you can take a caribou, a moose, and a mountain goat or sheep in just 10 days.
Our Dream Sporting Trips writer recently had the opportunity to interview Ron Nemetchek, founder of North River Stone Outfitting. This is Ron’s 38th year in the outfitting business. In addition to starting his own business, Ron has guided big game hunts all over North America, including Alaska. He has always loved guiding more than hunting, but Ron has had opportunities to hunt all over the world. His passion for guiding, his hard work, and his knowledge of hunting have allowed him to become one of Canada’s most respected Outfitters.

Thanks so much for taking time to talk to us! Tell us, what made you decide to become a hunting outfitter?
Ron Nemetchek, North River Stone
I was just out of high school when some people from Germany who attended the same church as I did, asked me if I would consider taking some German hunters on a hunt. At first, I said no because I needed to make a living and I intended to attend law school. They said, "You don't understand. They will pay you to guide them!" I always wanted to be a Guide Outfitter, I dreamt about taking people hunting and make a living of it. That was the day I knew I would make a living doing what I love most.

Where do you take your clients to hunt?
Ron Nemetchek, North River Stone
We hunt Whitetail Deer in Alberta, Canada. We take our Moose, Mountain Caribou, Mountain Goat, Stone Sheep, Grizzly, Wolf and Wolverine hunters in the Cassiar Mountains in British Columbia. It is a fly-in area and there is no road access to it--true wilderness.

What is your personal favorite game to hunt? What game do your clients primarily request to hunt?
Ron Nemetchek, North River Stone
My most favorite game--well, they are all my favorites--I truly enjoy being out guiding for any of the species we have. I believe that most inquiries are for the combination hunts and for the Whitetails.

Is there a particularly exciting or memorable hunting adventure you'd like to share with our readers?
Ron Nemetchek, North River Stone
Picture this: a misty mountain morning, moose barking in the meadow, sheep cresting a ridge in the distance, a herd of caribou running past and the sound of the clattering of their hooves--all while a majestic mountain goat on the cliffs watches from above. These are the memories that grip all of us and keep us going and wanting to make one more memory.

“Just on my way to Calgary for meetings and had a flashback to when my ram came over the edge of that mountain… a sight that will be pleasantly burned in my memory for life!” - Steve E.
“I have hunted with Ron and Maria three times now and I enjoy the hell out of it. I’m going back again this year (2014) for my fourth time. I love the people I’ve met there. Ron and Maria are exceptional individuals… The free range whitetail hunts are the main reason I chose North River – that and the number of acres they have to hunt. They have a ton of deer up there. We saw deer every day of the hunt and there’s a lot of activity. It’s just a matter of finding that trophy buck that you want… I think one of the most telling things is that in the three years I’ve been there, a lot of the same people are always there. That says something. If people come back to hunt the same place, that’s the highest recommendation you can get.” – Dick G.
“I’ve hunted with Ron at North River Outfitting twice and have learned many things about the deer in his area. This short article is intended to pass some of this information along to those looking to hunt with him this fall. Focus on mature bucks: One of the first things you will notice when hunting whitetails with North River is the size of the bodies on these deer. This makes it hard to estimate antler size accurately and generally a person will tend to underestimate the score. Some hunters go to this area with a certain B & C score in mind and they request that their guide keep them from shooting anything less. Well, even the best guides tend to underestimate the scores on these deer more often than they overestimate them…” - Bill W.
